Biopolymers

Fibers, pp. 883–902

Abstract

This chapter covers all biopolymers that either had some significance in the past or are currently investigated again for commercial applications. This includes, protein fibers (casein, milk, soy, corn, peanut, collagen, chitin, chitosan, fish protein and feathers) as well as polysaccharide fibers (alginate, starch, bamboo) and other polymers. Degradability is discussed and the market figures are given as well as a list of producers of biopolymers.
