Reduced Order Simulation by Proper Generalized Decomposition of a Synchronous Generator with Passive Rectifier

IEEE Biennial Conference on Electromagnetic Field Computation (CEFC), pp. 1–2

Abstract

The simulation of electrical machines connected to electronic circuits by a field circuit coupling enables the consideration of the electric circuit with active components and its influence on the machine. In the computation of the electric domain, the machine is represented by linearized inductances and electromotive force, but after a particular number of simulations of the electronic system, the electromagnetic simulation is repeated to consider the change in the magnetic field, which states a finite-element (FE) problem. To decrease the computational effort of the FE problem the Proper Generalized Decomposition (PGD) is employed, to reduce the Degrees of Freedom (DOF). The PGD process can be distinguished into two stages: In a first step, the offline phase, the reduced order model is enriched with modes. In the second step, the online phase, the modes, which contain the information about the system in different load conditions have to be assessed to compute characteristic values, such as inductances or torque. By employing the PGD in a numerical weak coupling, the computational effort of the Finite Element computations is reduced.
