Analytical Investigation on 3D Structure of Dual Axial Gap Induction Motor

2022 International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), vol. 13, pp. 2041–2046

Abstract

A 3-phase, 8-pole high-speed dual axial gap induction motor (DAGIM) using a wound ultra-thin steel strip core has been proposed. This DAGIM has a double stator and a single rotor. The double stator has two topologies, NN and NS, depending on the direction of the current flowing through the coil. In this paper, therefore, the relationship among these topologies, the rotor axial width, and the torque is investigated. Secondly, the characteristics of the DAGIM when the three-dimensional (3D) structure of the rotor is changed are investigated by 3D finite element analysis in order to improve this motor without changing the stator structure. As a result, the effect of skew angle and number of rotor bars on torque is clarified.
