Capitulum: The Compositae Newsletter reloaded
Taxon, vol. 70, pp. 1156
Abstract
Almost nine years after the last issue of the Compositae Newsletter was published and as members of a new generation of synantherologists, we are proud to announce the release of a new iteration of the timeless classic. The thrill and enthusiasm for Compositae that was so characteristic of the late Vicki A. Funk has permeated through us all and one of its effects has been our coming together to reboot the Compositae Newsletter. Capitulum (Fig. 1), the new name chosen for the newsletter marks a new epoch and is both iconic of the Compositae family, but also symbolic of our organization, The International Composite Alliance, out of many, one. Capitulum is varied in scope and depth with a diverse collection of article types, all devoted to the family Compositae. The articles are organized in six sections, Head Topics (systematics, taxonomy, development and ecology), The Pipet & The Press (a dissection of methods and techniques), Brevia (the same as Head Topics but, as the name would suggest, shorter articles), The Handlens (articles focusing on a given species or a morphological structure), The Cabinet (articles dealing with collections, biographic or history oriented) and From the Field (a space devoted to stories from those who venture into the wild in search of Compositae). Capitulum also offers a recap of the TICATalks seminar series and features a section named Style to showcase artistic photography from a synantherological perspective. The newsletter builds upon the strong foundation of its predecessor and relies heavily on graphics, with a minimalist design that connects the different articles in a cohesive way. We hope to inspire in the readership the desire to explore the wonders of Compositae throughout the world. Capitulum will come out twice a year. You can access the latest issue at compositae.org, where you can also find instructions for authors and a link for submitting articles.
