Reply to: checking the anaesthesia machine

European Journal of Anaesthesiology, vol. 38, pp. 194–195

Abstract

Editor, We would like to thank Scott1 for his valuable comments on our recently published editorial2 and emphasising the importance of checking the anaesthesia machine prior to its use. We agree that the two-bag-test is yet another useful possibility to confirm proper gas flow function. However, it is neither better nor worse than the pressure and flow test. Essentially these tests are the same, although a test lung is needed in addition. Both procedures comply with the necessity of testing the external breathing circuit.
