Representing model-based knowledge in mine planning

CRC Press eBooks, pp. 699–703

Abstract

Large heuristic and empirical knowledge -mine planning is based on- is translated into a knowledge base of an expert-system. Unfortunately there exists a gap between the knowledge of human experts and its implementation in a knowledge baseof a computer, because of the fact that knowledge in mine planing is hard to formalise, has a very high complexity and is based on a lot of implicit expertise. The Institute of Mining Engineering I demonstrates a possibility to represent this expert knowledge with different models and so closes this gap. This paper is about a hybrid representation of the model of expertise. This model of expertise is the last model of above mentioned model generation process before the implemention of the knowledge -which has been gained from the experts using knowledge elicitation methods- in a knowledge base of an expert-system. A hybrid characterisation means in this paper a combination of rule-based and object-oriented technologies.
