Abstract

A gas sensing apparatus 30 and method for sensing one or more analytes in a gas or gas mixture comprising a plurality of sensors 32, each sensor 32 including a polymer layer (42, fig 3). Each polymer layer is a respective different type of chemically non-selective or semi-selective polymer. There is a measurement device 38 configured to measure a change in a parameter of each sensor in response to the interaction of an analyte with the respective polymer layer. The polymer layer may be a coating on a sensing layer. The measurement device may measure a change in an electrical parameter. The sensing layer may be a graphene-based sensing layer which may be built into a graphene field-effect transistor. There may be a detector that measures a change in a structural parameter of each polymer layer in response to interaction of an analyte with the polymer layer. The detector may be a spectrometer. Each polymer may be a transfer polymer. There may be a computer program code, memory and processor to analyse the changes in the measured parameter of the sensors to identify the/each analyte. The changes in parameter may be used as input for a machine learning model.
