Methods and compositions for improving immunity against coronavirus
Abstract
The present disclosure provides methods and compositions for improving immunity against coronaviruses, particularly highly pathogenic coronaviruses. Provided are compositions comprising a peptide comprising at least a portion of the S2 extracellular domain of the S (spike) protein from at least one human coronavirus (HCoV) selected from the group consisting of HCoV-NL63, HCoV-OC43, HCoV-229E, and HCoV-HKU1, and compositions comprising nucleic acid molecules selected from the group consisting of HCoV-NL63, HCoV-OC43, HCoV-229E, and HCoV-HKU1. The nucleic acid molecule encodes at least a portion of the S2 extracellular domain of the S (spike) protein from at least one human coronavirus (HCoV), the at least one human coronavirus being selected from the group consisting of HCoV-NL63, HCoV-OC43, HCoV-229E, and HCoV-HKU1. The compositions described herein are particularly useful as vaccines, in particular against cross-species propagation of highly pathogenic coronaviruses, such as SARS-CoV-1, MERS-CoV and/or SARS-CoV-2, and typical non-human coronaviruses.
